La temporada 2001 fue la edición 29º del Campeonato Mundial de Rally. Comenzó el 19 de enero con el Rally de Montecarlo y finalizó el 25 de noviembre en el Rally de Gran Bretaña. Este año se introdujo por primera vez el Campeonato S1600, posteriormente bautizado como Campeonato Júnior.
El ganador fue el inglés Richard Burns que lograba su primer y único título, con tan solo una victoria: en el Rally de Nueva Zelanda.
